College Application & Essay Workshop

Effective College Application Workshop on –  Essay Writing, Admission Interviewing, College Selection and EA/ED Strategy 

Location: Near Vienna, Oakton, McLean, Fairfax, Virginia area to support rising seniors in their college application, admission interviewing, and college essay writing process. Most free seminars and essay workshop is open to our existing and rising seniors. For information session or free seminar, please stay updated. 

College Application Adviser:

Senior Counselor Ms. Laura worked for Georgetown University Law Center where she served as an Associate Director of Career Services. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the New York University School of Law. She conducted alumni admissions interviews for the University of Pennsylvania, and has served as co-chair of the school’s Secondary School Committee in Montgomery County, Maryland.  

Ms. Laura has been helping high school students navigate the college admissions process for more than 10 years. In the recent 5 years, her students were admitted to top schools, including: Cornell, Yale, Univ. of Pennsylvania, Duke, Georgetown, Tufts, UCLA, UVA, W&M, Wesleyan, Bowdoin, Vassar, Wellesley, and other great schools. She has helped conduct college application seminars and essay writing workshop at Oakton Academy since 2016.  All students appreciate Counselor Laura’s advice and guidance in their school selection, essay writing, mock interviewing, and application form completion process. 

Senior Counselor Ms. Annie worked for college campus for 13 years. She was an academic adviser at George Washington University, helping hundreds of students successfully transition to college life. She now guides her students through the college admissions process, and also helps college students with graduate school admissions.  

Annie holds BA from Duke, and master degree from Harvard School of Education. She was an Associate Director of Academic Advising at the George Washington University. Furthermore, Ms. Annie worked at the Duke University Law School and served as an alumni interviewer for Duke. A graduate of Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC, she was a member of the school’s Alumni Board for almost ten years, including two terms as president of the Board. Her students got admitted to Yale, Stanford, Princeton, and other top colleges. Ms. Annie will team together with Ms. Laura for our September – October 2018 College Essay Workshop at Oakton Academy.

Essay Reviewing and English Teacher Ms. Ivy graduated summa cum laude in English and Political Science, and she has “English Composition” courses in the English Department of George Mason University.

She holds a JD and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. She worked as an attorney for Farris, Riley & Pitt Law Firm in Birmingham, AL. She was the recipient of an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, as well as a National Merit Semifinalist Award. In her writing career, Ms. I. has published many poems and writings. She was an Associate Editor of the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Law Review, as well as a “Truman Capote Fellowship” recipient.

Ms. Ivy has worked with high school students on successful college applications and essays. Most recently, one of her students was successfully accepted in transferring from George Mason University to Purdue University. She also helped students with their essays for local high school admissions (TJ, Oakton, Langley, McLean HS). She also helped middle school students with their TJ essays. Ms. I. is very well respected by all parents and students. She is looking forward to working with our students on their upcoming college essays and applications, as well as 2018 TJ essay writings.

Ms. Courtney brings her excellent English language and literature background, and her years of experience in working with students. She loves Shakespeare’s work, and directs plays for the children as they learn Shakespeare’s work. She majored in English Creative Writing, and has had extensive experience working with advanced and gifted middle and high school students in George Mason University’s College Early Identification program (EIP), a program designed to promote promising college-bound students.

She has been mentoring, tutoring and teaching to students from K – 12. Her master’s major is on Curriculum and Instruction. She is bringing her creative and unique teaching style to our classic reading and writing program. 

Senior Adviser and Professor B. C. holds a Ph.D from Wharton Business School, Upenn. He has since taught business in Washington State University, and University of Delaware. He is the Associate Dean and Professor of Business Administration at U. of Delaware. Professor B. C. has coached and guided students in college applications, and essay writings. His students were admitted to top schools (including Upenn, Stanford, and other top schools). Some of his students graduated with careers in Goldman Sachs and Blackstone, and some got admitted to Harvard Business School, Upenn Business School. Professor B. C. brings his more than 25 years research and teaching experience to the college application and career development consulting.
