**Course Information: SAT Math; ****SAT English**

The Course is designed to prepare for the Math portion of the **New SAT Reasoning ****Test**. Students will develop the knowledge and skills measured on the test. The course will **emphasize problem solving**, modeling, appropriate tool use, and algebraic structural analysis. Course content includes all elements outlined in the** New SAT Math Test Content Specifications.**

Classes will consist of a **pretest, lectures, question and answer, problem solving and a post-test assessment.** Students should be doing practice tests outside of class. Course content includes all elements outlined in the **New SAT Math Test Content** **Specifications. There are some special features for this SAT Math class: **

**Math Teachers’ Bio:**

**Professor N.** has taught Math for over 20 years at all levels, from middle and high school through advanced college level. He helped establish the advanced mathematics program at the new Governor’s School at Innovation Park, serving as the **Mathematics Chairperson** and liaison between the School, and the George Mason University Math Department. At Governor’s School he taught **Pre-****Calculus and AP Calculus (AB and BC),**as well as supervised student STEM projects and served as student adviser.

Professor N. is a dedicated Math teacher and delivers his Math teaching with **enthusiasm: engaging students, sparking curiosity, and jump-starting motivation**. He is excited to bring his 20 years’ Mathematics teaching experience to Oakton Academy.

Math instructor Ms. J. graduated from Georgetown University with Magna Cum Laude. She successfully majored in three key areas: Mathematics, Accounting, and Finance. The excellent Math teacher was a senior adviser for Georgetown’s Business Strategy Challenge Case Competition. At Georgetown University, she has been teaching and tutoring **SAT,** **PSAT, AP Calculus, Statistics, Finance and Accounting courses**.

Ms. J. has many years’ experience working with both high school students and college students. She has been reviewing college essays for seniors, coached, advised, and guided students in their college admission and application. Her talent, ability, and her unique teaching style has won students and parents’ recognition. Ms. J. has worked for Wall Street J.P. Morgan in New York at the risk management department, and has served as the Associate at PwC Financial Service Assurance.

Throughout these three months, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the

learning process and instruction in the SAT Math class. Before

attending the class, there were multiple gaps in my knowledge of the

mathematics required for the SAT. However, we are taught to use three excellent **SAT Math workbooks**, my knowledge of former concepts got reinforced, and my perspective on mathematics got expanded. In doing so, I was able to exam problems from multiple viewpoints, and thus acquire a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

Moreover, with taking a section of a practice test each week, I began to identify my weaknesses and could now focus on addressing the specific types of problems and concepts with which I struggled the most.** Each week’s homework** consisted of series of problem sets, with each set containing only five problems: far from overbearing yet providing a practice opportunity critical to understanding specific concepts. The teacher is extremely knowledgeable, and can address students’ individual questions and

concerns.
